First Community of Practice Basel meeting

The first Community of Practice meeting of the URBANFLUXES project will take place in the morning of Tuesday, the 23rd of June, 2015. The venue is at Basel University. A Community of Practice (CoP) is a kind of social network aiming at exchanging knowledge and learning from practice. The URBANFLUXES project aims to involve local stakeholders in the project from the beginning through a CoP in each case study city. Basel is one of three case studies in the URBANFLUXES project, next to London and Heraklion. In 2011 the city of Basel issued a report on adaptation and mitigation to climate change. The city wants to reduce its CO2 emissions and also wants to address future problems with heat waves. The Basel Climate Analysis of 1998 (Klima Analyse Basel, KABA) showed that there are areas within the city that experience extreme overheating and that have poor ventilation due to the complex urban geometry. How can urban design and other measures prevent Basel from developing a summer peak of heat and CO2 emissions due to increased air conditioning?
